Willard Mullin Original Art for the 1954 New York Giants Yearbook
Willard Mullin was known as an artist who had a great time with his work. This would explain his prodigious output of more than 10,000 illustrations. They appeared in the New York World-Telegram six days a week from 1934 until the paper closed in 1966, and in ads, books, magazines, and programs. In 1971 he was cited by the cartoonists' association as the sports cartoonist of the century. This is one of the best Mullins we know to exist. It is the original painting that Mullin did for the 1954 Giants Yearbook, a very well known season in Giants history with their sweep of Cleveland in the Series and "The Catch". Full color, all done by the hand of one of the greatest sports artists ever. Condition is a fine EX+. Signed "Willard Mullin" at the bottom. Part of his last name is intentionally obscured by the book lying on the floor. Artwork is 17-1/4 x 18-7/8".
