Willie Mays Buys A Cadillac (1954)

Willie Mays Buys A Cadillac (1954)

Hall of Fame slugger Ralph Kiner was quoted as saying that "Home run hitters drive Cadillacs and singles hitters drive Fords." Well, there were very few people who hit more home runs than The Say Hey Kid's 660. And here's his bill of sale for Mays' purchase of a 1955 Caddy Coup deVille, with the bill totaling $5,746.44. The options are all listed, too. This lot also contains a letter from 16 days prior to the actual sale, asking a Mays representative to forward a book to Mays so that he could pick out the body colors. We assume he chose pink since he was known for driving a pink Cadillac with "Say Hey" plates.
