Willie Mays First Game, Homerun and Thomson Playoff Game Tickets (4)

Willie Mays First Game, Homerun and Thomson Playoff Game Tickets (4)

Four of the most important moments in the history of the Polo Grounds, and possibly baseball, took place on each of the days these tickets were issued for use. The first pair date from the 1951 playoff series between crosstown rivals the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants (one each from Games 1 & 2). During the 9th inning of the deciding game 3 (this was game 2 at the Polo Grounds), Bobby Thomson launched the bases loaded homerun known only today as "The Shot Heard Round The World" off of Ralph Branca. Both proof tickets show only minor edge wear and are overall EX-MT. The sole cream colored specimen, dated April 20, 1951, marked the debut of baseball's greatest all-around player, The "Say Hey" Kid, Willie Mays, NRMT proof. And finally, this May 28th, 1951 ticket witnessed the first homerun of Mays' career, EX+ proof.
