016 Aroldis Chapman Chicago Cubs World Series Ring Ordered for Friend w/ LOA
Amazing keepsake with an interesting backstory in this 2016 Chicago Cubs World Championship ring. After being traded to the New York Yankees to start the '16 season, flamethrowing reliever Aroldis Chaman was then dealt to the Cubs for the stretch drive, eventually winning the curse-breaking Game 7 in the World Series. The Cubs offered players the opportunity to purchase an extra "friends & family" ring - though only with the player's name on it - and Chapman ordered one for close friend Santiago Mateo, who was given this very ring at the ceremony in which Chapman received his. (It must be noted that a "friends & family" ring could only be ordered by a Cubs player and they were intentionally made slightly smaller than the rings produced for the players.) The face of the ring is encrusted with genuine diamonds as a base for the iconic Cubs "C" logo, adorned with rubies. There is also a thin, blue circle among the diamonds comprised of sapphires. WORLD CHAMPIONS is above and below, left shank reads "CHAPMAN" above the famous Cubs' game-day "W" flag, which is in blue on a setting of diamond chips. Opposite has the year above a relief of the famous Wrigley Field facade, with another genuine diamond topping the MLB Championship Trophy. Ring is stamped Jostens 10k, size 9.5, weighing 56 grams and the piece is in stunning NM-MT condition. The Cubbies snapped a curse of over a century by finally winning a World Series, and Chapman proved to be a well-worth-it rental, re-signing with the Yanks during that off-season. Comes with Letter of Provenance from Santiago Mateo.
