1927 Cove Street Baseball Championship Silver Trophy
A trophy with lots of character and in excellent condition with a great shine. On its base is engraved, “Cove Street Winner of V.E. & P. Co, Baseball Championship 1927,” pointing to some local baseball competition. Of note is that it is made by the A.J. Reach Company, the maker of sporting goods who patented the cork-centered baseball. A beautiful design where two bats guide the eye upward to the award’s pinnacle - a large silver-plated baseball with engravings which present it as a real baseball: a “Reach” trade mark, the looping stitching, and printing which states “Official American League Ball, Pat. Aug. 31 - 1909,” a date that points to the day Benjamin Shibe, a partner in the A.J. Reach sporting goods company, received the U.S. patent on the cork center baseball. The bottom portion below the ball, has lost some surface and has dulled a bit over the years.
