10/1/01 Rickey Henderson Record Breaking Runs Scored Game Used Baseball (PSA & Umpire LOA)

Presented is a Ricky Henderson signed game ball from the October 1, 2001, game at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium, before 21,606, when Henderson scored his 2,246th run to break Ty Cobb's all-time Major League runs scored record of 2,245. As Henderson moved closer to Cobb's all-time runs scored record, Ricky vowed that he would slide into home plate to mark the occasion of his 2,246 runs scored. In the third inning of the fourth place Padres' ball game against the visiting third place Los Angeles Dodgers, Henderson homered to left field, and as he came close to home plate after rounding the bases, Henderson kept his word, sliding into home with the record-breaking run. The Padres won the game 6-3. The signed ball is a Rawlings Official Major League Baseball (Selig). Using blue ink from a ballpoint pen, Henderson signed the ball on a side panel. In the sweet spot, written in an unknown hand, is "10/4/01 2,246 R/S" The signature is large and clearly written. The signed ball comes with a signed Letter of Authenticity from John Shulock, a former American League umpire, who umpired the game. John Shulock's LOA states, in part: "This ball was used when Ricky Henderson broke the run scoring record in 2001[.]" Henderson now holds the all-time MLB record of 2,295, a record that seemingly may never be broken. This Henderson signed game ball from the game when he broke the all-time runs scored record is extraordinarily rare. We have never seen another. Hand printed on the ball, in blue ink from a ballpoint pen, in an unknown hand, is "10/4/01 2,246 R/S." The Henderson signature on the ball is a 9/10. The signed ball also comes with a PSA LOA.
