12/20/14 Manti Te'o San Diego Chargers Game Worn Jersey (MeiGray Photo-Matched)

Manti Te'o was a linebacker who was a consensus All-American at Notre Dame. In 2012, his final season at Notre Dame, Te'o was involved in what was later revealed to be a hoax. Te'o had claimed that both his grandmother and his girlfriend had died on September 11, 2012. After an investigation, it is likely that a friend of Te'o had apparently perpetrated a hoax in which someone impersonated a non-existent woman who was posing as Te'o's online girlfriend. The involved and murky situation received national publicity. Te'o was drafted in the 2013 NFL draft in the second round by the San Diego Chargers. Te'o was active for seven NFL seasons. He played four years with the San Diego Chargers, three years with the New Orleans Saints, and a final inactive season on the roster of the Chicago Bears. Te'o played in 62 NFL games, starting 48. He had 307 combined tackles, with 212 of his solo ones. In 2014, Te'o played in 10 games, starting six. He had an interception, with 61 combined tackles, 41 of them solo. Te'o is originally from Hawaii, the nation's 50th state, so it is only natural that this offered jersey sports the number "50" on the front, back and sleeves. The neck has a tag showing the Nike swoosh and the NFL logo. That tag also shows "On Field" and "42" for size. A tag on side of the above-mentioned tag reads "2014." A tag on the lower inside left tail gives washing instructions and show the jersey to be approximately 90% nylon. The jersey comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the San Diego Chargers stating that the jersey was worn in the Dec. 20, 2014, game against the San Francisco 49ers, a 38-35 Charger victory, at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The LOA also gives the Nike serial number for the jersey. The short-sleeved jersey shows great game wear. There are paint or grass stains, sweat stains, loose threads, dirt stains, and a very small tear on the right shoulder. In it's time, the Manti Te'o hoax was widely known and often discussed in the media. Although a great college player, Te'o became better known for the mysterious hoax.
