1849 Negro "Slaves" Sale Document
In a day and age with an African-American president, one only has to read the plaque at the bottom of this nicely framed and matted document to realize the stark contrast in how the races are viewed today: "ACCOUNT OF THE SAME OF THE LAND AND NEGROES OF THE ESTATE OF JOHN GRESHAM DECEMBER 4, 1849."
