Handcarved Wooden Black Boy On Watermelon (35" tall)

Handcarved Wooden Black Boy On Watermelon (35" tall)

Stunning handcarved wooden of a stereotypical turn of the century black boy is sitting on a watermelon. Made in the 1950's, the piece is Handcarved and handpainted. The subject possesses a precious smile and holds a piece of watermelon in both hands with a bite mark out of it. In bare feet and overalls, he is just irresistible. A wonderful piece of folk art Americana with a socially irresponsible, politically incorrect subject. Overall very good condition with minor defects but overall a real nice piece. Artist signed "P.W.G." (carved onto the back of his shoulder). 35” tall and 17" wide (weighs 50 lbs).
