1850s Tim Keefe Sporting Times Advertising Sign
This extremely rare piece depicts the New York Giant ace hurling in his best form, and is the only specimen known to exist. This advertises the groundbreaking publication, and, offered for 5 cents, is still a bargain. The point of purchase display in light cardboard sat at the counter of local news agents, and this one was available only in the New York area, making this even more of a rarity. The man is identified at the bottom: "Tim Keefe, N.Y. B.B Club." Measures 11" x 9" with a great ghost image on back as this was backing for a picture frame for likely a century, saving the lot from sure destruction. Tim Keefe was a dominant pitcher during the early days of the sport, pitching 14 seasons and being posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1964.
