1856-57 Porter's Spirit of the Times Bound Volume with First Baseball Reference

1856-57 Porter's Spirit of the Times Bound Volume with First Baseball Reference

"The Spirit of the Times: A Chronicle of the Turf, Agriculture, Field Sports, Literature and the Stage" was an American weekly newspaper published in New York City in the1830s. Eventually the paper split, and in 1856, "Potter's Spirit," formed by William Potter, one of the original founders, was created. This bound, hardcover volume consists of the first six months of the publication, from September 8, 1856 to February 28, 1857. It contains the first reference to baseball in an American publication and 19 issues have information about baseball in them. This is volume one of the publication and is in great condition for its age. The 11x16.5" tome is wrapped in a plastic book cover, and overall the contents are very legible and close to EX.
