1863 Abraham Lincoln Signed Civil War Appointment Document (PSA)

1863 Abraham Lincoln Signed Civil War Appointment Document (PSA)

This incredibly important historical document was signed by Abraham Lincoln on September 25, 1863, at the height of the Civil War. Signed just a few months after the Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest conflict of America's deadliest war, the document appoints George Morgan to the rank of colonel, and is signed by Lincoln and Edwin Stanton. Not long after the document was signed, Ulysses Grant was named commander of all Union armies, and a policy of total war was implemented. Grant slowly and methodically brought about the end of the war, which culminated in Robert E. Lee surrendering the last major Confederate army to Grant at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865. The beautiful, ornate document reads "President of the United States of America" at its top, which is an interesting juxtaposition as the country was as divided as ever at the time. It measures 14x18" with intersecting folds and is in fine condition with only minor surface wear from being 150+ years old. Lincoln is considered to be one of the greatest presidents in our country's history due to the way he handled such a tumultuous time in America. This document is one piece of the extraordinary leadership required to put back together a fractured country. Comes with PSA LOA.
