1880 Garfield and Arthur Campaign Silk

1880 Garfield and Arthur Campaign Silk

Splendid Campaign Silk for the James Garfield and Chester Arthur 1980 Presidential campaign. At the Republican National  Convention at Chicago in 1880, James Garfield became a compromise nominee and won the nomination. With Chester Arthur the Vice Presidential nominee, Garfield won the Presidential Election, over Major General Winfield Scott Hancock. By most accounts, Garfield's term in office was productive, but he was assassinated six-and-a-half months later by a frustrated office seeker. The silk itself, black lettering on a maize background, is 5x29.25". With a maize background and framing, the piece measures 9x43". Condition is Near Mint.
