1885 John L. Sullivan Large Mounted Photograph
John L. Sullivan was born on October 15, 1858 in Roxbury, Boston, MA. He is the link between bare knuckles and glove fighting and is considered to be one of the best heavyweights ever. He held the undisputed World Heavyweight Boxing Championship for ten years, winning it in 1882 from Paddy Ryan and losing it in 1892 to James J. Corbett. This is an original, first generation, large format photograph of John L. Sullivan. Copyright stamp of John Wood of New York, 11885 in lower left area. Bold image with almost no fading. Has a line of foxing running through the center. No creases, rips or tears. Mounted on board. His major fights through January, 1885 are listed on the mount under the photograph. All vintage to the photograph. Framed. The photograph is 13 1/2" x 17 1/2," on a mount of 15" x 21."
