Dempsey and Firpo Lithograph by George Bellows (1923-24)
One of the most important works of fine sports art. Masterful recreation shows the September 14, 1923 battle between Jack Dempsey and Luis Firpo at the Polo Grounds. One of the most heralded American artist's George Wesley Bellows captures the moment Firpo sent his opponent over the ropes and into the press box below. The image quickly became an American classic. The original painting is priceless and would sell in the millions. The original lithograph sells in the $40,000 range. This is the second lithograph and is rarely if ever seen.
