1887 Allen & Ginter Worlds Champions N28 Album
Stunning in both color and detail, this 1887 Allen & Ginter album features the fifty-card World’s Champions of the N28 card issue. Most notable in this 8x6" inch relic are the baseball players, who are spread out on three pages, and the cover, which shows John Ward and boxer Jack Dempsey with various sports gear on a pool table. There are twelve pages with four cards each plus the two champions on the cover as well as the decorative back cover. The renditions look the same as the real N28 cards except the words ”Allen & Ginter” are absent from the front, and the backs of the album pages are blank. Both covers are in VG condition with original string binding, while the inside dozen pages are in EX or better condition. Besides the popular baseball players, the album includes notable pool and billiard players, pugilists and riflemen with Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill Cody. Originally included with tobacco products in the 1800s, it has become a highly popular seller by Topps since its reintroduction a decade ago, no surprise given the quality of the originals.
