1887 N690 Whitey Gibson Kalamazoo Bats Card

1887 N690 Whitey Gibson Kalamazoo Bats Card

One of the most hard to find 19th century baseball cards, this Kalamazoo Bats card has catcher Whitey Gibson on the front in beautiful sepia tones. Orginially known as Leighton P. Gibson, "Whitey" debuted at the age of 19 with the Big Leagues, the Philadelphia Athletics on May 2, 1888. The 1888 Athletics ended with an 81-52 record and finished in third place in the American Association. Gibson only played this one game with Philadelphia, so this is truly a rare find. Card reads, "Gibson, C. Phila, Copyright 1887 by Chas. Gross & Co., Smoke Kalamazoo BATS." Front of the card has a very nice appearance with slight rounding of the corners. There are also two creases that do not break the paper, and pencil writing (partially erased) on the back. Left to right centering is 70/30. Overall a clean looking card. SGC grading of 20, Fair.
