1888 Boston Base Ball Club Display Print by Hastings
Baseball print, titled "Boston Base Ball Club 1888," produced by noted Boston photographer/artist George Hastings. The finely engraved artwork features a game-in-progress scene, with the Boston players in the field. The copyright reading "G. H. Hastings 1888" appears in the lower right corner. This has always been one of the most intriguing of all nineteenth-century baseball prints because of its incredibly detailed player images. Most of the players are readily identifiable, including Tim Keefe on the mound, Mike "King" Kelly behind the plate, and "Hoss" Radbourn on the sideline. That same attention to detail is also given to the fans in the stands, most of whom were well known at the time. Included among the many "cranks" enjoying the game are John Montgomery Ward and Harry Wright. The print (20x13", visible dimensions) displays light toning and is otherwise in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 27.5x21". <span style="font-size: 10pt;"><em>Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.</em></span>
