1888 Jem Mace Presentational Boxing Belt Buckle
Sterling silver buckle presented to Sam Bird by Jem Mace. Fascinating star-shaped buckle is acid etched and engraved, “Presented By Jem Mace To Sam Bird…For His Clever Boxing with J.P. Sullivan Champion Lightweight Boxer…Jan 7th 1888.” Came out of England originally. Jem Mace, the "Father of Modern Boxing," probably had the greatest influence upon boxing during the pre-1900 era.
