1888 Joseph Hall New York Giants Team Cabinet
Extremely rare Joseph Hall team cabinet photograph featuring the 1888 World's Champion New York Giants. This is a particularly unusual photograph of the Giants team posed in front of the stadium grandstand with players all looking to their right rather than looking forward toward the camera. Joseph Hall had more than one printing of team cabinet cards in 1888 resulting in variations relating to both the photographs and mounts. Players are identified at the bottom front of the mount. Included are Hall of Famers Tim Keefe, Roger Connor, John Montgomery Ward, Buck Ewing, Jim O'Rourke, and Mickey Welch. The back is blank on the offered example. Joseph Hall was the preeminent baseball photographer of the late 1880's and Joseph Hall cabinet cards are among the most desirable cards from that era. This ranks as one of the best nineteenth-century team cards. A very attractive example of one of the key teams of the day. The mount has some corner wear and edge chipping, the 6.5"x4.25" card is encapsulated by SGC and graded 30 Good 2.
