1890 Police Gazette Premium Catalog Book
This 1890 catalog book from the "Police Gazette" for "Sensational and Sporting Books" is sensational in its' own right. This little (approximately 5 1/4" X 3 1/4") book gives hobby enthusiasts a rare glimpse into how the Police Gazette cabinet cards made their way into lives of collectors for generations. Leading off the catalog, just after the books, cabinet cards are listed for sale for 10 cents each. This catalog is of extreme importance because it not only gives us a solid understanding of how the "Police Gazette" cabinet cards, that it advertises, made their way into the hands of collectors but it also gives us a tremendous checklist of those cards. Researching cards originating from the dawn of card collecting is often very difficult and enthusiastic collectors and researchers are always updating the information that we have and this catalog gives us invaluable information. The book itself would grade Excellent if not for a small (1/4") tear at the right edge of the cover. This is one of only two examples that we have ever heard of. A rare opportunity to own a piece of card collecting history.
