1893 George Dixon Signature

George Dixon was born on July 29, 1870 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He won the World Featherweight Title on June 27, 1890 from Nunc Wallace. He retired after losing to Mok the Newsboy on December 10, 1906 with a final record of 51-28-45 with 3 no decisions, 3 no contests and 27 KO's. “Little Chocolate” signed this 5 ?” x 9” letterhead from a hotel in Philadelphia in bold fountain pen ink, Yours Truly George E Dixon Champion Featherweight of the World Dec. 25th, 1893. Signatures of this early Afric-American champion are extremely rare, particularly signed as champion as exhibited here. Some edge and corner wear, none affecting the signature which is bold and crisp.
