1894 Corbett vs. Mitchell Rare Boxing Cabinets (3)
Great cabinet photos of the James J. Corbett versus Charlie Mitchell fight. Corbett had won the World Championship with a victory over John L. Sullivan. In this fight, held at the Duvall Athletic Club in Jacksonville, Florida, Corbett dropped Mitchell in the second round. Corbett was complaining to the referee after the round that the count on Mitchell was too slow and Mitchell attacked Corbett between rounds 2 and 3. Angered over this attack, Corbett came out swinging in the third round and knocked out Mitchell with a right to the chin, thus keeping his title. Never saw these. The photo of the fight (4.88x7.5") is best of all. Other two photos are 4.25x6.5". One shows a beach scene from Jacksonville and the other depicts Corbett and Mitchell as each half-man and half-alligator. All three of the cabinets show wear with some slight scuffing, minor staining, and some minor creasing and edge wear. Scrapbook paper on back of cabinet cards is removable.
