1895 James J. Corbett "A Naval Cadet" Stone Litho Poster
“Gentleman Jim”, as he was known, was the Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World by virtue of his 21st round knockout of reigning champ John L. Sullivan in 1892. He stayed champion until he met boxer Bob Fitzsimmons on March 17, 1897 in Carson City, Nevada . After Corbett had dominated, and administered a cut to Fitzsimmons, Mrs. Fitzsimmons called out, "Hit him in the slats, Bob!". Fitzsimmons obliged and struck Corbett so hard in the abdomen that Corbett could not finish the count. After this loss he retired from boxing and took up acting. This 34 ?” x 24” framed stone litho has a small tear hole and a few creases around the tear. Overall it is in EX condition. Litho is of “his new play” in 1895 called “A Naval Cadet”.
