1896 - 1897 Page Fence Giants Trade Card SGC 40
One of the most famous pieces of Negro League Baseball memorabilia in the hobby. The Page Woven Wire Fence Company of Adrian Michigan produced this card with a printed photograph of thier all black sponsored baseball team on the front. The back features advertising for thier product as well as thier slogan "Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might." The team featured early Negro League greats George Wilson, Grant "Homerun" Johnson and Charlie Grant, both of whom are identified on the front of the card below the photo along with the other members of the team. A few years later, John McGraw tried to pass Charlie Grant off as Native American in order to bring him up to the Major Leagues, but Charlie was recognized by other players and the rouse didn't work. The card measures 4.5 x 5.5'' and is encapsulated by SGC and assigned the grade of 40 VG 3. The is the 2nd highest graded by SGC with only one higher.
