1897 New York Giants Sterling Silver Season Pass (ex-Barry Halper)
Incredible New York Giants sterling silver season pass presented to Andrew Deyo for the 1897 season. In a swirling, psychedelic font, the pass reads, "The New York Baseball Club, Season 1897, Tender to Mr. Andrew Deyo, The Courtesy of the Polo Grounds". Giants President Andrew Freedman's signature appears raised on the front, while the back is stamped "Sterling". Freedman bought the Giants in 1895 for $53,000, and spent a brief but tumultuous time as owner until he sold the team in 1902. His ownership tenure also included acquiring the Baltimore Orioles of the American League and completely dismantling the team to poach talent for the Giants. In 1897, the Giants were led by shortstop George Davis, who put together a very impressive statistical season for the time, batting .353 with 10 home runs and a league leading 135 RBI's. More than a century later, Davis would be posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. The pass comes from Sotheby's Barry Halper Auction in 1999 with an accompanying tag. It is overall in EX condition with some surface wear on the back and front.
