1899 Chicago Union Giants Calendar (11x13")

1899 Chicago Union Giants Calendar (11x13")

You can be certain that an advertising piece such as this is extremely rare. In fact, this is the only major merchandising piece we have ever seen advertising a 19th century Negro League team, as it was quite uncommon for a black baseball club to even have the funds to do such in this manner! Fabulous image of the team's 14 members, includes manager Frank C. Leland, later namesake for the unimprovable Leland Colored Giants. Headliner reads, "Remember the Chicago Union Baseball Club - Are the Greatest Drawing Colored Team in the West, and are home every Sunday afternoon." At lower left is their win-loss records for 1896-1898. This marvelous advertising calendar represents unchartered territory in the realm of baseball collecting, an impressive conversational piece. Beautifully framed and overall EX.
