1902 Booker T. Washington "Slavery" Letter

1902 Booker T. Washington "Slavery" Letter

The most admired leader of the African-American community around the turn of the century, Booker T. Washington is the centerpiece of this framed display that features a signed letter from the author, orator and educator. Typed on Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute letterhead, Washington replies to someone named Leo Goodkind, referring him to two of his books, including "Up From Slavery," whose cover is also matted in the display. The entire piece measures 16.75" x 23.5". The book details Washington's experiences in working to rise from the position of a slave child during the Civil War, to the difficulties and obstacles he overcame to earn an education.
