1902 Cincinnati Reds "Palace of the Fans" Sterling Silver Season Pass
The 1902 Cincinnati Reds were the dictionary definition of mediocrity with 70 wins and 70 losses, finishing fourth out of eight teams in the National League. But there's nothing average about this stunning, highly-desirable season pass that doubled as an invitation to the dedication of the team's new home known as "The Palace of the Fans." What lifts this 3.75" x 3" beauty above the norm is its raised relief of the building right on the pass. The engraving reads: "1902 AT THE CINCINNATI BALL PARK - DEDICATION MAY 16th YOU ARE INVITED" with the president's signature, No. 65 and recipient's name: "MR. H.P. EDWARDS." The shining pass is in EX condition and stamped "STERLING" on the verso. The Palace of the Fans featured an extravagant facade, hand-carved Corinthian columns and opera-style private boxes in front of the covered grandstand. However, after just 10 seasons, cracked floors, crowded seats and a fire forced the building to close, ushering the Crosley Field era (initially known as Redland Field).
