1907-09 H. M. Taylor Tigers Postcard Ty Cobb Rookie PSA VG 3
1907-1909 H. M. Taylor Postcard Ty Cobb. Graded VG 3 by PSA. This is an extremely attractive example of one of Ty Cobb’s acknowledged rookie cards from 1907. While the question of which issue should rightfully be called Cobb’s “true” rookie card is highly contentious, almost everyone would acknowledge that his H. M. Taylor Postcard, which is one of several Ty Cobb postcards issued in 1907, certainly qualifies to be included in the debate. Regardless of any arbitrary designation it might receive, we have always found Cobb’s H. M. Taylor card to be the most visually pleasing of all his 1907 issues because it pictures the young “Georgia Peach” striking a batting pose on the field. It should be noted that this card’s technically accurate grade is highly misleading when assessing its aesthetic appeal. PSA’s grade of VG is predicated almost entirely upon an extremely light diagonal crease in the lower right corner that is visible only from the reverse. Aside from that, the card displays closer to EX-MT, and is one of the most attractive H. M Taylor Cobb postcards we have seen. We should also mention that the card was just recently discovered in Michigan, making it an exceptional fresh-to-the-hobby example as well.
