Some of these hard-bitten guys in this 1907 team photo of the New York Highlanders (before they were called the Yankees) look like refugees from a chain-gang, including a young Branch Rickey, middle second row. Rickey, who refused to play on Sundays, only lasted one season with the team as a catcher before moving on to his illustrious front office career. Others in the photo include Wee Willie Keeler, Clark Griffith and Jack Chesbro, Hall of Famers all! Crystal clear image from spring training in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
