1908 Michigan "Captain Schultz" Real Photo Postcard
One of the toughest players in the early days of football, Germany Schultz was a standout center and first-ever linebacker. Playing for the Michigan Wolverines at the turn of the 20th Century, he was quite the innovator, credited with creating the spiral snap and developing the practice of standing behind the defensive line. This rare photo of one of the initial inductees into the College Football Hall of Fame shows Schultz standing on the field with a confident, almost menacing posture. It is the first of its kind that we have seen and has historic value.
