1909-1913 M101-2 Sporting News Supplement Collection (63) - Non Hall of Famers

Collection of sixty-two different 1909-1913 M101-2 Sporting News Supplements, plus one duplicate with a variation reverse. This collection originates from a remarkable complete set of M101-2 Sporting News Supplements that was obtained by a longtime collector decades ago. The set, as a whole, is perhaps the finest ever assembled, the majority of which is being broken up and offered in several lots in this auction. (The PSA highest-graded Joe Jackson M101-2, which appeared in our Summer Classic Auction and realized a record price of $20,419, originates from this same set.) The offered collection represents the majority of the set, minus the Hall of Famers, Joe Jackson, and the four oversized team supplements.

The collection consists of the following: 1) Sherrie Magee FR, 2) Nap Rucker FR, 3) Jim McAleer FR, 4) George Bell PR, 5) Hal Chase PR, 6) Tommy Leach FR, 7) Owen Bush FR, 8) Harry Krause FR, 9) Babe Adams PR-light water stain, 10) Orval Overall GD, 11) Fred Merkle FR, 12) George Mullin GD, 13) Ed Konetchy FR, 14) George Gibson/Art Raymond PR, 15) Johnny Kling PR, 16) Charles Dooin PR, 17) Bill Carrigan FR, 18) John McLean PR, 19) John Coombs FR, 20) John I. Lavender FR, 55) Jess Tesreau PR, 56) August Herrmann GD, 57) Jake Daubert GD, 58) Heine Zimmerman FR, 59) Hans Lobert PR, 60) Al Demaree GD, 61) Art Fletcher FR, 62) Charles Somers FR, and 63) Joe Birmingham FR.

The 1909-1913 Sporting News supplements were printed on extremely thin paper stock and nearly all surviving examples display condition flaws, including creases, tears, and corner chips. While the offered supplements are no exception in that regard, all are in far finer condition than normally found and present at a much higher level than one would expect in relation to their technically accurate grade. (It should be noted that of the 145 M101-2 Sporting News Supplements graded by PSA to date, none have graded higher than VG 3 and only six have graded higher than GD 2.) This is an outstanding collection of these attractive supplements, all of which offer exceptional eye appeal.
