1910-12 Ty Cobb "A Rare Smile" Type I Photograph from The Boston Collection

Is that a smile? Most likely the sun is in his eyes and he's squinting, but we'll call it a smile. This remarkable 6.5x8.5" Type I photo features Cobb with his glove, striped Tigers hat, and his collar flipped up. Is he waiting for the ball or watching the rest of the team practice? We'll never know but we do know this Type I is crisp, clear, and has great contrast. Fresh to the market and recently graded PSA Authentic Type I.

Fine assemblage of fresh to the market Ty Cobb ephemera. Recently discovered in the Boston area, it includes some of the finer signed photographs we have seen in all our years and some beautiful Type I photographs as well. We believe this came from something of an industrial source and they were likely used for some publishing venture or perhaps even a card set which was never completed (more cards of this era were created in the New England area versus any other). These fine pieces will also seen in future Lelands auctions incuding a wonderful image of the classic Ty Cobb “Sliding” photograph by Charles Conlon.
