1910-15 Jack Johnson Scrapbook Which Belonged to his Trainer Watson Burns
The Jack Johnson scrapbook offered here belonged to Watson Burns, who was Johnson's trainer and close friend. It contains original photographs (twenty-nine), telegrams (three), a handwritten letter, and numerous period newspaper clippings.Original photographs include four gorgeous Dana photos from the 1910 Johnson-Jeffries bout (with Johnson, Jeffries, and John L. Sullivan); Johnson at training camp; Johnson photo postcard; and President Roosevelt in the ring.1911 telegram reads "Find Watson Burns and tell him to be ready to leave for London as I am sending tickets tomorrow as I want him to train me for the Wells fight. Jack Johnson."Also, a 1915 letter to Watson Burns from his son and a 1938 postcard addressed to "Watson W. Burns."
