1910s Era Mission Oak Set WIth Carved Baseball Scenes

1910s Era Mission Oak Set WIth Carved Baseball Scenes

From a century ago, this early mission furniture from the Stickley era is a home run wherever it may wind up. There are two pieces in this oak set - both house-ready - with the top rail of both depicting baseball scenes carved in the wood. The original paint has been retained whereas almost all the similar pieces we have seen do not. As an added attraction, the original cushions are also included and have been re-covered in black leather. The only TRUE Baseball furniture you will come across, with the same baseball scene illustrated on both the armchair and the bench (greater scope on the latter). Specifically, a pitcher deals to a batter with a catcher and umpire situated behind the plate. There are three defensive players on the left side of the field, with a border fence surrounding the players and comprising the left side of the park. Beyond the fence is an actual bull in a pasture (the first "bullpen" perhaps?), which adds a very nice touch to the pastoral, summertime feel. The chair, which measures 26x38x24.5", has two small stress cracks along the top rail. The bench measures approximately 46x37x24.5". Mission was simple furniture built to last... and last it has.
