1910s Ty Cobb Photograph from Keystone PSA Type I

1910s Ty Cobb Photograph from Keystone PSA Type I

Crisp 1910s original Type I photograph of Ty Cobb encapsulated by PSA. The photo measures 6x4.25" and has Keystone View Co. of NY stamp on reverse. The image shows a pensive Cobb at the apex of his barn burner career. The intense gaze of his eyes sears the soul as he directly looks into the camera. This, of course, makes this the most desirable of his portraitures. The mise-en-scene is akin to something out of Dada with the planks dissecting his brain, an analogy to his tragic upbringing lowlighted by his mother shooting his father dead. His uniform is rumpled yet utilitarian with the interesting detail of his cadet style collar held in place with a simple safety pin. This is one of the first Cobb photos we have seen and the only specimen of this particular pose.
