June 12, 1939 marked not only the one-hundredth birthday of baseball but also the opening of the sacred Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Its inaugural class, clearly the finest in its history to date, was photographed that day along with a number of other future inductees. Pictured here are Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Connie Mack, Eddie Collins, Napoleon Lajoie, Tris Speaker, Grover Cleveland Alexander and George Sisler.
