1910’s Wright & Ditson Strap Top Football Helmet
The early days of the sport were plagued with paralyzing concussions and death. Proposed legislation by President Roosevelt threatened its existence and changes had to be made to preserve the game. We offer for one of the earliest and rarest, dog-eared helmets created. Originally worn to prevent dreaded “cauliflower ear”, the black leather, top-stitched, helmet, still with original chinstrap, exhibits strong use. The top is stamped with the “Wright and Ditson” logo and the center front panel with “4HG.” The leather itself is well broken in, as is the sweat drenched inner padding.
