1911-15 Springfield College Scrapbook with Four Original Photos of Jim Thorpe Playing Football
Contained in this beautifully aged book are four photographs of Jim Thorpe, one of America's greatest athletes, playing football against Springfield. In these extremely rare photos taken at the same school where James Naismith invented basketball, we see Thorpe playing for the Carlisle Indians football team, carrying the ball, punting and an interesting cutout of just him. We know him today as a legend but this compilation shows us how he touched America in his own day. A layered piece of history from the original owner Thomas Rudkin’s college career, this is a fascinating artifact that you could spend hours thumbing through. Made before modern layout schemes and design programs, this represents not only the years of 1911-15 at Springfiled YMCA College, but the immeasurable time necessary to hand-make this piece. Featured in its’ pages are ticket stubs from a Boston v. Brooklyn baseball game, Springfield team photos, cutout photos and a seemingly endless bounty of keepsakes. All the photos are in EX condition and some of the pages are coming loose.
