1911 Addie Joss Benefit Game Panoramic Photograph

1911 Addie Joss Benefit Game Panoramic Photograph

One of the most desirable of all panoramic photographs, this was presented to participants in the game, therefore only a handful are known to exist. This specimen has never before been offered for public sale and was previously unknown in the hobby making it as fresh as a daisy. It originates from the Cleveland area, so it may have once belonged to a Cleveland player who participated. The first true All Star Game ever, the greatest of the majors played the Cleveland Nap on July 24, 1911, to benefit the family of superstar Addie Joss, who passed away tragically just a few months before from tuberculous meningitis. This horizontal lineup of talent represents perhaps the greatest team ever assembled in baseball history packed with names from Shoeless Joe Jackson to Walter Johnson to the enigmatic Ty Cobb in a hastily borrowed Cleveland Indians uniform. Many of the known specimens of this photo are in battered condition or heavily restored - which is NOT the case here. This is one of the top specimens known and the best we have ever offered. Condition is beautiful with excellent contrast and clarity in the gorgeous sepia tone they each exhibit. Dry mounted on a piece of foam core, the only flaws are at the top and bottom borders (the white 1/8" strips) and there is NO damage to the image itself. At the top an 11" portion of the border only has been trimmed, and at the bottom the border is intact but has white paper residue on a 10" portion. Other than these two flaws, the photo appears EX-MT with no tears or rips. Overall 37" x 7.25", one of the classic pieces in the pantheon of sports collectibles. Everyone should have one but that is an impossibility. But you can.
