1911 "Baseball & Circus" at the Polo Grounds Original Cabinet Card

1911 "Baseball & Circus" at the Polo Grounds Original Cabinet Card

Historic circa 1911 cabinet card depicts the unusual scene of a circus spanning the surface of the renowned Polo Grounds. Albumen image measures 7x5" and is beautifully sepia-toned, mounted on a heavy card measuring 10x8". Photo has a great look, mount is toned and discolored at the edges from handling over more than a century, and there is a chip of roughly 3x1.5" to the bottom right corner; the chip has separated from the mount but is included. Extensive notes across the bottom of the border and pencil notations on back document the fascinating history associated with this image. Notes start with "RARE ITEM FOR BOTH CIRCUS & BASEBALL on one photo!" and additional commentary includes, "The old Polo Grounds baseball stadium is at left. It will be demolished soon after this photo - & in 1912 the 'new' Polo Grounds Baseball Stadium will open!" Notations are in unknown hand.
