Connie Mack’s first dynasty captured four A.L. pennants and three World Series between 1910 and 1914. These Athletics were a true powerhouse and featured the $100,000 Infield of McInnis, Collins, Barry, and Baker, plus a first rate pitching staff with names like Combs, Plank, Bender, and Morgan. The heart and soul of Mack’s Men was second baseman Eddie Collins who averaged .344 with 111 runs scored and fifty-nine stolen bases over the dynasty’s five year span. In 1911, the year this lot dates from, Collins hit a career best .365 while placing third in the voting for the A.L. Chalmers Award (Major League Baseball’s first MVP award).
