1911 James Jeffries and Barney Oldfield Signed Photo
The first man to drive a car a mile a minute poses with heavyweight champion Jim Jeffries, best remembered for his fight with Jack Johnson in 1910. This photo was signed just 7 months after that event in Reno as a “Feb. 14-1911” notation in the upper left corner notes. Oldfield penned his signature above his image, “To my friend Lardner, You know me, Barney Oldfield.” Jeffries penned his, “To my southern friend, Yours, Jas.J.Jeffries.” The Lardner mentioned was the noted sportswriter, Ring Lardner. This is an original 10” x 12” photograph mounted on board to 12” x 15.” Minimal wear is evident at corners. Bold signatures which would rank 8 out of 10. LOA from PSA-DNA on the autographs. Extremely rare combination.
