1911 Knute Rockne Signed, Personally-Owned Student Book at Notre Dame - Family Sourced (JSA)
Knute Rockne's personally owned and signed "Hertwig's Manual of Zoology" hardcover book from his days as a Notre Dame student. The Hall of Fame coach signed on the inside page in graphite pencil with "Corby Hall - Notre Dame, Indiana" with the inscription by Rockne himself. The signature pops and is a large autograph taking up a good portion of the page. Of the 579 pages in the book, 109 have handwriting by Rockne himself, mostly notes and labeling diagrams to help him study. In the back of the book, Rockne hand-wrote four pages with the title "Syllogism." Each page is still attached to the binding and there are no signs of them coming loose anytime soon. There is light wear around the edges of the cover, not unexpected considering the book was actually used and is over 100 years old. Sourced from Rockne's granddaughter Bonnie Smith and comes with a copy of an LOA describing that she sold this book along with other signed items to a Sports Collector's Store is 1995. The book measures roughly 6.5x8.5" and the signature comes authenticated with a full JSA LOA.
