1911 T3 Turkey Red Proof of Harry "Slim" Sallee
Long before there was Slim Shady, "Slim" Sallee made a name for himself on the baseball diamond. An illustration of him in his pitching motion graces this 1911 Turkey Red Proof that measures around 6" x 8" and is in EX condition. The unusual story behind the Turkey Red proofs is legendary in the industry, first surfacing in New York City in 1973 and then becoming major collector's items. The left-handed Sallee still ranks among the St. Louis Cardinals' greats in lifetime earned run average (third-best at 2.67) and innings pitched (seventh-best at 1905.1). He also pitched for the Cincinnati Reds in 1919 when they won the World Series amid the Chicago Black Sox scandal.
