1912-1914 Ringling Brothers Signed Check Collection (PSA)
It was called "The Greatest Show on Earth" and for 146 years, as the Ringling Brothers Circus and as the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and also as its predecessors - the traveling show was a mainstay of American entertainment. In 1908, Ringling Brothers took over the Barnum and Bailey Circus, and ran it separately and then in 1919, the names of the two circuses were officially merged into the "Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus." Presented is a collection of three checks, each 3.25x8.5" check an official Ringling Brothers business check, with each of the offered checks being signed by a different member of the Ringling family: 1) A check written to John Stoker in the amount of Six Dollars ($6.00) and dated on April 20, 1912. On the top of the check is printed "Ringling Bros. - World's Greatest Shows." The check is from the Bank of Baraboo, Wisc. and Baraboo was where the circus was founded in 1884. The check is signed in blue ink from a fountain pen by Henry Ringling North, a nephew of the original five Ringling Brothers who founded the circus and an executive, including vice president and treasurer, in various capacities with the circus. The check has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified AUTHENTIC AUTO. 2) A check in the amount often dollars ($10.00), and dated Dec. 22, 1913. Printed at the top of the check is "Ringling Bros. - World's Greatest Shows," and the check is drawn on the Bank of Baraboo, Wisc. The check is made out to "F.E. Shults [?]." The check is signed by Al Ringling, one of the original founding five brothers of the circus. Al Ringling signed the check in blue ink from a fountain pen. The check has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified AUTHENTIC AUTO." 3) The check has "Ringling Bros. - The World's Greatest Shows" printed at the top. It is drawn on the Fort Dearborn National Bank of Chicago, Ills. The check is dated Sept. 16, 1914, and made out to the "United States Tent & Awning Co." in the amount of six dollars ($6.00). It is signed by Chas Ringling, one of the original founding brothers of the circus, using blue ink from a fountain pen. The check has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified AUTHENTIC AUTO. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus seemingly presented its final show in 2017, but this circus will be revived in 2023, scheduled to resume traveling shows in the fall, but without animals. The signed checks, by Ringling family members, represent a great remembrance of an American institution, one that it poised to make a 2023 comeback.
