1912 Jack Johnson v Jim Flynn Site Program
Here's an extremely rare piece of boxing history, with a distinctly Wild West presentation from early in the century. From the same year that Jack Johnson was charged with violating the Mann Act, for which he was acquitted. Johnson pulverized Jack Flynn in this fight and it was stopped in the ninth round by the police, who declared it a brutal exhibition. According to the cover, the scheduled 45-round fight took place in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Constructed of high quality parchment, the program is oversized and illustrated throughout with great images of the principles, including group shots with their sparring partners and trainers (interestingly, Jack Johnson's group consists mostly of white men), previous heavyweight champions, promoters, and other involved parties. The referee Ed W. Smith has a full page. The program does have condition issues; a 2" tear, chipping to front and back, creasing and foxing. Inside, there's a bit of creasing but it is fully intact, measuring 9.25x12.5" and spanning 36 pages.
