1912 Rube Marquard Original Glass Plate Negative
Original glass plate negative capturing pitcher Rube Marquard as a member of the New York Giants. The image pictures Marquard posing for the camera as he warms up on the sideline prior to a game. The notation "Marquard Pitcher N.Y. Natl" is etched along the right border. Although no year is listed, the uniform style shown here was used by the Giants only in 1912. Marquard was the ace of the staff that season, winning a league-high 26 games for the pennant-winning Giants. He was equally masterful in the World Series, limiting Boston to just one earned run in his two starts, both of which were complete-game victories. Unfortunately, the Giants lost to the Red Sox in eight games (one game ended in a tie). The negative (7x5") displays some tiny flaking along the borders and is in Excellent condition overall. Culled from the Legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
