1912 Titanic Inquiry Photograph (PSA Type I) - Lookout Man Gives Testimony

1912 Titanic Inquiry Photograph (PSA Type I) - Lookout Man Gives Testimony

Photo capturing Archie Jewell, who served as a lookout on the Titanic, giving testimony at the British inquiry investigating the Titanic disaster. A scale model of the Titanic can be seen in the background. Jewell was one of six lookout men employed on the Titanic and he was off duty, asleep in his cabin, when the Titanic crashed into the iceberg. Although Jewell was one of the few fortunate survivors of the Titanic disaster, he could not escape his fate. He later died at sea in World War I when the hospital ship he was stationed on was struck and sunk by a German torpedo. Six Brown Brothers stamps appear on the reverse, along with a handwritten caption that identifies Jewell as the person standing in front of the panel giving testimony. The photo (6.75x5.75") displays a few light surface wrinkles and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
